As Japanese imperial’s colonial governance continued, many independent fighters kept in mind the war of independence against Japan. They agonized various ways to win, and attacking Japanese territory by using flight unit was one of them.

It was started from the thoughts that we can win the war by conquering the Japanese weak point the air power.

Therefore, training aviators who will participate in the war was rising as one of the important tasks then.

However, it was impossible that training them in the Korean territory because of Japanese imperial’s rigorous suppression and surveillance. As an alternative solution, they were trained in other countries such as America and China.

Among them, Kim Jong-Lim was a person who contributed to training Koreans in the American flight school.

After he emigrated to Hawaii at the age of 20, he worked at the sugar cane farm and lived his life as a laborer in Salt Lake and Fresno.

Since 1912, he moved to California and accumulated huge wealth by farming rice to the point of calling him ‘Rice King’.

He used money not for himself, but for his homeland. He financially supported the Korean provisional government’s independence funds. In particularly, he didn’t economize financial support for the establishment and management of the ‘K.A.C(Korean Aviation Corp)’, known as the ‘Willows flight school’.

Under his wholehearted support, many Korean aviators could be born. However, the K.A.C disappeared into history as the farmland, which was the base of support, was damaged and the business got harder and harder due to the great flood.

After independence, although flight school was disappeared, he didn’t stop giving attention and support by helping provisional government’s celebrities return, creating harmonize environments for Korean 1st generation in America, and participating the relief campaign for the Korean flood victims.

Now, we should all aspire to be the new Kim Jong-Lim of the 21st century and accomplish the Republic of Korea that he dreamed of!
