Born in Wonsan, Yu Dong-ha was fluent in Russian as he moved to Russia in 1902 and graduated from Russian school. In 1909, when he heard that Ito Hirobumi would visit Harbin to meet with the Russian finance minister, he decided to help Ahn Jung-geun and Woo Deok-sun shoot Ito.
Yu Dong-ha, who was familiar with Russia, accompanied Ahn Jung-geun and Woo Deok-sun to arrive in Harbin safely and took charge of the contact network. After that, Yu Dong-ha let Ahn Jung-geun know the estimated time that Ito would arrive at Harbin Station enabling his undertaking succesfully.
After his release, he helped Ahn Jung-geun’s family settle in Heilongjiang Province, and also assisted Ahn Chang-ho, who visted North Manchuria by translating Russian and guiding him. Yu Dong-ha, who was continuing his anti-Japanese struggle in Russia, is believed to have been shot by Japanese troops sent to Russia.
